Mampong

A dark milk bar made with 50% cocoa for a more intense chocolate flavour with fruity notes, creamy milk cues and less sweet.  This bar appeals to those with a penchant for a deeper, richer cocoa taste delivered as a milk rather than a dark chocolate.

Mampong honours the founding father of Ghana’s cocoa industry, Tetteh Quarshie who returned from Fernando Po (modern day Bioko Island) with cocoa in 1876 and established his farm in Akwapim Mampong.  It also acknowledges the Ashanti Region where much of our cocoa is grown.  It is wrapped in the earthy golden plumage of the Senegal Coucal.

The Senegal Coucal is known colloquially as the “Water-bottle bird” because of the liquid bubbling notes of its call, like water pouring from a bottle.  Semi-terrestrial it frequents our fields, gardens and roadsides clambering in low vegetation, and hopping on the ground in thick cover.  Its’ head and tail are glossy black but its wings and back are a beautiful golden rufous brown.  It can be found all over Ghana in town and countryside alike.  When you hear the Coucal, remember, your water bottle should never be single-use plastic if we are to guard our precious ecosystem and all its inhabitants.
