The Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird is a small bird with black upperparts and a lemon-green rump, belonging to a family of birds known as Barbets.  It provides the characteristic sound of our open forests and woodland, a monotonous, far-carrying rhythmic series of three to six (sometimes more) notes, uttered with a short pause between each series.  For all the world, exactly like the percussive notes of the adawur ntaa that forms the backbone of much of our drumming and music.  Ranging along our coasts and into the middle belt we imagine our ancestors listening to the persistent call of the Tinkerbird as it wove its way through their music and fashioning instruments to deliberately replicate the sound ….
